Interesting study, through not surprising, is that during the Ice Age, Europeans had to consume diets high in fat in order to survive the harsh environment. According to Medicalxpress, alcohol intake was also a necessity that into the early humans as well.
It's interesting that effect continues to today when such diet doesn't jive with our lifestyle any longer with cardiovascular disease and alcoholism now such a problem as accessibility to fat and alcohol are so readily available.
It also makes one wonder just what other genetic changes are occurring since the Industrial revolution, medical and technical advances, and the warming of the climate all working together and against each other as well as other pressures to modify our genetic make-up.
