A federal appeals court in Atlanta ruled the individual mandate part of President Barack Obama's healthcare reform was an improper exercise of federal authority. While calling the ideal "novel", it represented an "unbounded assertion of congressional authority".
According to CNN, parts of the law survived challenge. Earlier, another appeals court found the individual mandate, which requires all Americans to be insured by 2014 through some kind of a plan or face fines, to be lawful.
SCOTUS challenge is next. And this will be decided some time in 2012, you know, a national and presidential election year. This is going to get ugly. Really really ugly.
