Expect More To This Story Than the $12.5 Billion Price Tag Google Paid To Buy Motorola Mobility

Well, what’s the biggest news today in mobile?

When Motorola said last week that it could be charging fellow Android device makers, I predicted that this was negotiation ploy or some sort.

I think there is more to this story than we know.  It’s unlikely that Motorola and Google negotiated without other parties involved.  $12.5 billion is a lot of money.  And if I may go one step further, I bet there was a some back-and-forth going on that jacked up the price.

As for regulatory issues, there probably isn't going to be much.  I suppose competitors could return the favor and force Google offer a way to share the Motorola patents with open source community just like it's pressing the winners of Nortel to do the same.
