Amazon thinks that there is a market for ebook rentals. And it is working with publishers to do just that. You know Netflix and how we pay them a monthly free to stream videos? Well, Amazon is going after the ebook rental market, essentially, creating a market that, as far as we know, doesn't exist yet.
One word: brilliant.
Is this going to be a big market? I don't know but I can see myself interested in just such a thing. I'll get some more thoughts into this throughout the day but I like to own books. But there are plenty of books out there that I'll read once and move on.
For me, the price will have to be decent. I definitely cannot cost more than what I pay Netflix, which is $8 a month. But for $5 a month, it's a no-brainer.
