Wild Speculation But Fun Read: We Might Get Just the iPhone 4S This Fall But Could We Get Another Update In Spring And Next Fall Again?

With all the talk today about how Apple will release only one new model of the iPhone in a couple of weeks, the iPhone 4S, let me share with you a crazy scenario that just might put things over the top for Apple in the next 12 months.

Check this out.  Multiple iPhone releases in the next 12 months.

So, let’s supposed today’s blog talks all over the Web is correct:  we’ll only see the iPhone 4S this fall.  So, fine, I’ve said in the previous post that I can live with that and so can most other mobile warriors.  Despite this not being the iPhone 5 and record iPhone sales, a vast 80-90% of the addressable market for Apple still doesn’t have the iPhone.

And a few months later, say in February, Apple releases the iPhone 4G, as in an iPhone with LTE support.  This could also be just the iPhone that will work with China Mobile’s own home-grown LTE network.  Albeit in the US, the market for this could be smaller.

Most of the US and world networks will still be on 3G.  On the other hand, I am on Verizon Wireless, which should have a pretty robust LTE network by next Febuary or March.  AT&T should have a bigger LTE network by then as well. Can you say “winning”?

And perhaps then, Apple could also finally release an iPhone for T-Mobile if it truly does not get it this fall.

Then 12 months from today, Apple can finally unlease the iPhone 5 with a form factor like that of the iPad or iPod touch.  Apple will have multiple releases that could be needed to not only easily hold off its competitors but also gain some ground as well.

The iPhone 4S and the iPhone 4 LTE will have the same specs except for the antenna difference, obviously.  The iPhone 5 will then sport a bigger screen and higher resolution and an A6 chip, probably the same chip that will be at the heart of the iPad 3.
