Agent Siri - Sort Of But It’s Not for Everyone and Power Users Will Want More

I have been trying to test out agents on my MacBook Air. In just playing with it for a few days, without a lot of success yet. However, I realized that a lot of what I am was able to work with the app are things that Siri will eventually be able to once Apple has time to let the new Apple Intelligence mature.

For Apple, I do not know if they will define AI agents the same way most other people do but I think for the vast majority of us, we will either find them very useful or not use them much at all. Even now, you can automate tasks with the need for an AI backend. Having said that, Siri-powered agents or tasks are coming. I am guessing here but I see two tracks happen on at the same time. 

Siri ウwill gain more agentic features. Shortcuts are the way to go but automation is going to be a big deal if Siri becomes important as new generation of users want to farm daily and repetitive tasks to the computer to perform. Apple wants a lot of that to take place on-device. My understanding is that Apple is always looking for ways to run and fit bigger models given limited resources on devices like the iPhone.

But no matter what, Siri will still not be enough for some users. These are like niche or power users. Apple will not make Siri cannot be everything to everyone. They will want customization and create their own agents that Apple is not interested in creating or will not get to for quite some time. What is great about this Apple versus what the older more respective Apple is that they are willing to open up MacOS enough for their party agentic tasks to be allowed. So, Apple will not necessarily crack open its various operation systems for power users and developers but could make things easier for them with new tools to build new AI capacities into their apps or workflows.

Eventually, a lot of what I am using now with Dottie is going to something Siri will be able to do locally. If that is the case, why not wait for it? Well, I do like the concept of my computer completing tasks without my direct involvement. I have seen what LLM can do and I know if I spend time with agents, I will eventually figure out how these agents will make my life easier and more productive. And for work or business that I will eventually start, going into it with experience with agents would really elevate my game.

No matter how you feel about the current state of AI right now, it is definitely not going away. The only thing you can do, which is not all that different from what it was like before ChatGPT came into our lives, is decide what to do about AI tools. Do you ignore it? Do you join the grow throng of workers who are waiting for AI to replace you? Or d you use it as a force multiplier in both your personal and professional life.

Remember, it’s a tool. You are the one in control. Don’t let it control you.

Google Contact Lenses, Apple’s Vision Pro, And The Future of AR in Glasses

 We can walk and chew gum at the same time. But how about watching a video while doing yard work, during a meeting you don’t want to be at, or, ahem, school?
